Take-Away Tuesday: Smile, Sharjah's Art Scene is definitely Hoppin'! | Family Photographer Dubai
This past weekend was all about enriching our inner art-buffs. We took a trip out to visit some of the art museums in Sharjah, and I must say, I was actually quite pleasantly surprised. Now, don't get me wrong, it's not that I wasn't expecting Sharjah to rise to the occasion, I just hadn't been in that part of the UAE in YEARS! I lived in Sharjah for one year. It was probably the toughest year of my life, solely because of the insane traffic and commute between Dubai and Sharjah one would have to go through trying to get to work on time every morning, and I vowed to never return unless absolutely necessary. And let me tell you. THIS day trip was absolutely necessary. So much has changed. The small, but surely bustling, art scene is heart warming. I definitely think it has excellent potential. Sharjah will now be on the bucket list for sure for any visitors coming into town in the future!
We visited quite a few things, but my absolute favorite was Yayoi Kusama's Dot exhibition which you can see pictured below. Yayoi Kusama is most recognized for her use of repetitive patterns, polka dots, and nets, as well as her immersive, large-scale environments. Yayoi Kusama moved from Japan to the US in the 1950s and became a leading figure in the avant-garde movement in New York in the 1960s and a major contributor to the development of pop art.
